CNOOC has started operations at its Luda 5-2 North Oilfield Phase II development in the central Bohai Sea offshore eastern China.

The main facilities, located in 30 m water depth, are an auxiliary production platform and a wellhead platform. CNOOC plans to drill a total of 28 production wells and one water source well, with peak production of about 6,700 boe/d in 2026.

Luda 5-2 North Oilfield was the first in China to produce from “super heavy” oil reservoirs through thermal recovery in China when Phase I started up in 2022, the company said.

The Phase II project will further exploit the field’s resources through use of optimized jet pump injection-production technology.
