CNOOC has started production from the Dongfang 29-1 gas field development in the Yinggehai Basin offshore southern China.
The location is in 68 m in the northwestern region of the South China Sea, between Hainan Island and northern Vietnam. Production facilities include a new unmanned wellhead platform and a submarine pipeline, with six development wells to be commissioned.
CNOOC expects to achieve peak production of 38 MMcf/d later this year.
The platform’s equipment layout has been optimized to make best use of available space, reducing overall investment costs, the company added.
Produced oil and gas will head through the pipeline to existing facilities serving the Dongfang gas fields for processing.
