(Norway) - A new appraisal well is underway on Statoil's Gudrun discovery in the Norwegian sector of the North Sea.
The semisubmersibleTransocean Leader will drill Well 15/3-8 to a reservoir depth of 4,800 m. If large oil volumes are found, Statoil may consider developing the field through the Sleipner complex, 50 km to the south.
Gudrun is a high pressure, high temperature reservoir which was discovered in 1975, when oil, gas and condensate were proven.
Four years ago, Statoil drilled an appraisal well on the structure's eastern extent. Statoil operates the surrounding production license 025 with a 46.8% stake. Its partners are Marathon, BP, and Gaz de France.
