(West Africa) - ABB has received a contract from Willbros West Africa Inc. for a supervisory control and data acquisition system (SCADA) and a common integrated communications system for a pipeline that will deliver gas from Nigeria to terminals in Benin, Togo, and Ghana for power generation.
The contract, worth $9 million, is for a solution that will include an integrated local and wide area networking structure for VoIP telephone communication and SCADA control via satellite. This will enable communication and control between the compressor station and five regulation and metering stations for the facilities' SCADA, process control, safety and fire and gas systems.
Completion for the work on the 620-km long pipeline is scheduled for December 2006. It is projected to initially carry 130 MMcf/d with a projected capacity of 470 MMcf/d. The pipeline will be owned and operated by West African Gas Pipeline Company Ltd., whose shareholders consist of ChevronTexaco West African Gas Pipeline Ltd., Nigerian National Petroleum Corp., Shell Overseas Holdings Ltd., Takoradi Power Company Ltd., Societe Togoliase de Gaz and Societe Bengaz.
