BUCHAREST, RomaniaOMV Petrom has confirmed two drilling contracts for its Neptun Deep gas field development in the Romanian sector of the Black Sea.

Transocean will supply the semisub Transocean Barents for a minimum of 18 months to drill the 10 wells. The sixth-generation rig, due to mobilize to the Black Sea toward the end of this year, has a Class 3 dynamic positioning system, anchors and dual RAM Rigs, allowing it to work at the project’s shallow and deepwater locations.

The estimated value of the arrangement is EUR325 million ($356 million).

Transocean first announced the minimum 540-day contract for the Transocean Barents in mid-December 2023 at a rate of $465,000 per day, excluding additional services. The program is expected to commence in the first quarter of 2025, and it is estimated to contribute about $251 million in backlog, excluding full compensation for mobilization and a demobilization fee. For each day over 540 days, including the two option periods, the operating day rate will be $480,000.

Under a EUR140 million ($153 million) contract, Halliburton Romania and Newpark Drilling Fluids Eastern Europe will provide integrated drilling services. Hallburton’s duties will include cementing, directional drilling and well completions.

Earlier, OMV Petrom awarded Saipem a EUR1.6-billion ($1.75-billion) contract for the offshore facilities.

The company and partner ROMGAZ are targeting first gas from Neptun Deep in 2027.
