SundaGas submits drafts of preparation for Chuditch well offshore Timor-Leste
Sunda Energy subsidiary SundaGas Banda Unipessoal has submitted two draft reports concerning the Chuditch-2 appraisal well in the Timor Sea to the Timor-Leste regulator Autoridade Nacional do Petróleo (ANP).
The drafts, both available for public consultation, are for the environmental impact statement and the environmental management plan for the planned well on production sharing contract (PSC) TL-SO-19-16.
Following a 14-day consultation process, SundaGas will submit final versions of the documents to ANP to review and approve.
The Chuditch PSC is 185 km south of Timor-Leste, 100 km east of Santos’ producing Bayu-Undan gas-condensate field, and 50 km south of the potential offshore Greater Sunrise development.
It covers a 3,571-sq-km area in water depths of 50-100 m, and it also contains the Chuditch-1 gas discovery that Shell drilled in 1998. The well encountered a gas column in the Jurassic Plover formation on the flank of a large, faulted structure.
SundaGas has been working on a phased development concept involving either exports of production via a subsea pipeline to an existing LNG complex, or a standalone LNG development at Chuditch. It is targeting a long-term plateau rate of >300 MMcf/d.
In January, the Outer Limit vessel started a five-day environmental baseline survey offshore Timor-Leste for Sunda Energy. Sunda said at the time it would incorporate the analysis of the acquired samples of the marine environment into the environmental impact statement for the planned Chuditch-2 appraisal well, due to spud in the second quarter.
Late last year, SundaGas Banda Unipessoal entered a non-binding letter of intent with a drilling contractor for a jackup for an appraisal program on the Chuditch gas field.
