SWATH offshore service vessels operable in high seas

Feb. 20, 2025
Vuyk Engineering Rotterdam has released its new Small Waterplane Area Twin Hull (SWATH) service operation vessels.

Vuyk Engineering Rotterdam, a maritime design house, has released its new Small Waterplane Area Twin Hull (SWATH) service operation vessels (SOVs).

Among these are the Groenewind, which was co-developed with DEME and is claimed to be the world's first DP2 twin-hulled SWATH SOV. The vessel features a slender hull, said to minimize fuel consumption; DP2 technology; and a motion-compensated gangway for offshore crew transfers.

Vuyk says its SWATH SOV 40P and 60P vessels, both 70 m long, offer high workability in rough seas and wave heights greater than 3.5 Hs, with strong motion behavior.

Vuyk Engineering Rotterdam is an independent engineering specialist in ship design, methods engineering, equipment design and temporary steel design.

The company also designs wind turbine generator spreads annually, which include tower grillages, bladerack substructures and seafastenings for nacelles, project equipment and lifting tools. These projects typically start with high-level, rapidly evolving concepts and progress toward finalized detailed design drawings, Vuyk said.

For the Moray West wind farm, the company has completed multiple seafastening scopes; Cadeler's Wind Orca jackup vessel is equipped with grillages and seafastenings for the turbine towers, nacelles, bladerack and substructures, transition pieces and several seafastenings for the project equipment.
