Van Oord has completed construction of the FSRU jetty at Wilhelmshaven, northern Germany.

The client is Deutsche Energy Terminal (DET). FSRU Wilhelmshaven, a joint venture between ENGIE and TES, is the project manager.

Van Oord worked with DET on the engineering, with monopiles, more normally associated with offshore wind turbines, used as the foundation for the FSRU’s new 600-m-long jetty.

The company was also responsible for procurement and construction of the jetty, installing 10 monopiles, with scour protection to guard against erosion.

Next, the foundations were fitted with platforms, catwalks and furniture, with the trailing suction hopper dredger Vox Apolonia then brought in to dredge the berth pocket and turning basin to the required depth.

According to Van Oord, the FSRU was one of the priority projects supported by Germany’s LNG Acceleration Act, passed in May 2022, to ensure the security of the nation’s gas supply.
