HAUGESUND, Norway  USV AS has contracted Remota to manage remotely controlled offshore operations for the company’s first newbuild unmanned service vessel, due to start service in 2025.

Remota is a joint venture (JV) company between DeepOcean, Solstad Offshore and Østensjø, which seeks to fast-track implementation of remotely managed services in cutting operating costs and emissions for the offshore and marine sectors.

The first USV will be controlled from the JV’s Remote Operations Center in Haugesund, where both the vessel crew and ROV operators will be co-located.

Remota will support development of the vessel’s remote-control functions, communication systems and compliance with maritime regulations.

The new USV, featuring a low-weight, hybrid-electric propulsion system with battery package, is designed to reduce COemissions by more than 90% compared to a conventional offshore vessel during subsea inspection, maintenance and repair (IMR) operations.

It will go on charter to DeepOcean for use in subsea IMR and survey work in the offshore renewables and oil and gas industries, and it will be capable of operating offshore for up to 30 days without the need for charging or refueling.

An onboard work ROV will be operable down to 1,500 m water depth.
