NEWCASTLE UPON TYNE, U.K. — Royston has completed the overhaul of diesel generators on board the Stena Spey semisubmersible drilling rig.

The work involved refurbishment of cylinder heads, pistons and conrods as part of a 12,000-running hour service of the Rolls Royce Bergen KVGB12 diesel generators. Royston engineers performed the work onboard the vessel while it was moored at Orkney, northern Scotland.

Engines were stripped down to allow engineers to conduct maintenance and repairs on the 12-cylinder heads, along with two-unit inspections, main bearing inspection, camshaft inspection, and timing chain and drive inspection.

Repairs to water leaks in the No.3 generator entailed removal of the cylinder head, piston and connecting rod, and renewing the cylinder liner.
