NEWCASTLE-UPON-TYNE, UK – Royston has completed an overhaul of a diesel power plant system on-board the cylindrical FPSO Hummingbird Spirit.

Altera Infrastructure operates the platform, which produces gas from the Spirit Energy-operated Chiswick field in the UK southern North Sea.

Royston’s engineers undertook the 24,000 running hours service work on a Mitsubishi S12U engine installed on the 60-m (197-ft) diameter FPSO, performing the work in several phases.

The program involved engine disassembly with critical components sent to Royston’s North East workshop for refurbishment.

Main engine work included repairs to the crankshaft, installation of new turbochargers and air and oil coolers, with checks and repairs to cylinder heads, liners, bearings, connecting rods, and pistons.

The final phase covered completion of the work, reinstallation, commissioning, and comprehensive engine load testing.

Hummingbird Spirit, owned by Teekay, has offshore tanker offloading facilities with an oil export capacity of 270,000 bbl.
