Føn managing maintenance of two Ocean Winds North Sea wind farms
Ocean Winds contracted Føn Energy Services Jan. 8 to provide balance of plant operations and maintenance for the Moray West and Moray East wind farms in the UK central North Sea.
Føn’s service covers inspection and corrective maintenance, including management of the teams, vessels, planning, logistics, engineering, procurement and project management. In addition, the company will manage delivery of vessels, survey equipment and personnel for above-water and subsea inspections on all wind turbine generator and substation foundations and subsea cables.
Above sea level, Føn will perform inspection and maintenance of wind turbine foundations and substructures, power cable terminations and foundations for offshore substation platforms.
Below-water works will cover subsea components including inter-array cables, foundations and scour protection. The company will conduct geophysical surveys; scour surveys of WTG and offshore substation foundations; bathymetric surveys of subsea cables, cable protection systems and the surrounding seabed; and multi-beam surveys of cable routes for subsea components related to the offshore substation foundations.
The arrangement runs for three years, extendable by up to two further years.
Moray East and Moray West have a combined capacity of 1.8 GW and 160 fixed-bottom wind turbines.
Ocean Winds is a 50:50 joint venture between EDP Renewables and ENGIE.
