Positive results from North Sea Selene gas well analysis

Deltic Energy has raised its resource estimate for last year’s Selene gas discovery in the UK southern North Sea after reviewing new data from operator Shell UK.

The porosity and permeability measurements on 176 core plugs were taken from drill core samples over the Leman B-Sand, the main producing interval within the much thicker Leman sandstone package.

Analysis of the samples from well 48/8b-3Z is now largely complete, and it has revealed improved porosity and permeability characteristics compared with previous assumptions.

Reservoir modeling suggests enhanced production potential from the B-sand interval, with higher initial flow rates, extended plateau production periods and a potential productive lifespan for Selene of 20 years.

Analysis of the gas samples also proved the presence of a very dry, methane-dominated natural gas with nominal concentrations of contaminants including CO2 and N2. So the produced gas may require minimal processing to reach the UK’s National Grid entry specifications.

As a result, Deltic has upped its estimate of the 2C contingent resource by 33% to 174 Bcf.

Following the successful result from last year’s well in 2024, the partners agreed to proceed to the license’s second term and committed to various engineering, commercial and regulatory programs to support a field development plan.

This could lead to FID being taken on the project in early 2027.
