QatarEnergy has agreed to acquire a 27.5% interest in the petroleum exploration license and petroleum agreement for Block 2813B (PEL0090) offshore Namibia.
Harmattan Energy, an indirect subsidiary of Chevron, will retain a 52.5% operated interest. The other partners are Trago Energy and state-owned NAMCOR, each with 10%.
The Block 2813B is about 200 km offshore and 70 km north of the deepwater Venus discovery in which QatarEnergy is also a partner.
The license spans a 5,433-sq-km area in water depths of 2,400 m to 3,300 m.
Late last month, QatarEnergy reached agreement with TotalEnergies on strengthening its interests in two exploration blocks in the frontier Orange Basin offshore Namibia. Subject to approvals, QatarEnergies would acquire an additional 5.25% from TotalEnergies in Block 2913B (PEL 56) and a further 4.695% in Block 2912 (PEL 91).
