Galp confirms oil from latest Mopane appraisal well offshore Namibia

Galp Energia expects a new 3D seismic acquisition campaign to start shortly over its deepwater block PEL83 in the Orange Basin offshore Namibia.

The company also issued an update on the recently drilled, cored and logged Mopane-1A appraisal well, which spud on Oct. 23. This encountered light oil and gas-condensate in high-quality reservoir-bearing sands.

Results confirmed good porosities, high permeabilities, high pressures and low oil viscosity with minimal CO₂ and no H₂S.

This was the third well on the giant Mopane oil discovery following Mopane-1X and Mopane-2X. The partners will analyze and integrate the newly acquired data, Galp said, while also progressing plans for further exploration and appraisal wells.
