Odfjell Technology has deployed a 36-inch by 38-inch conductor pipe in what it says is Kuwait’s first offshore Jurassic well.

The operator of the well commissioned the equipment to support the wellbore structure and prevent formations caving.

Using real-time monitoring, Odfjell was able to achieve accurate placement of the conductor pipe with minimized stress on the equipment.

The company devised a 38-inch hinged casing spider bowl to safeguard the installation. This and other modifications were necessary, it added, because of the pipe's size and weight and the reservoir’s extreme depths of the reservoir.

“Developing Jurassic reservoirs…in Kuwait, brings significant challenges, such as high-pressure, high-temperature environments and the presence of toxic hydrogen sulfide gas,” explained Marwan Hassan, Odfjell Technology’s local operations manager.

In late January, Odfjell Technology formed a cooperation with privately owned R&D Solutions, an Australia-based energy industry equipment and services provider, to help grow its presence in the Asia-Pacific region. Under the arrangement, Odfjell will offer its well intervention services, wellbore cleanup and whipstock tools to support Australian well services operations and deepwater activity, and the region’s P&A sector.
