The Danish Energy Agency has authorized Nord Stream AG to conduct preservation measures to preserve the damaged Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline in the Baltic Sea.

The Danish Energy Agency has authorized Nord Stream AG to conduct preservation measures to preserve the damaged Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline in the Baltic Sea.

These involve installing custom-made plugs at each of the open pipe ends to prevent further gas blowouts, and the supply of oxygenated seawater.

Work is due to take place during the second or third quarter, and it should take up to three weeks to complete.

Breakages to Nord Stream 1 and Nord Stream 2 pipelines occurred in September 2022, at locations east and southeast of the Danish island of Bornholm.

The damaged Nord Stream 2 pipeline A is thought to contain about 9 MMcm to 10 MMcm of gas. The Nord Stream 2 pipeline B remains intact and gas-filled to about 54 bar (lowered from 103 bar).
