SAN DONATO MILANESE, Italy — Saipem has issued a further update on yesterday’s pipelay incident related to the Scarborough gas field development offshore Western Australia.
A buckle occurred during pipelay, but the Castorone vessel did not incur any damage.
According to Saipem, buckling can occur, and the company has approved procedures and resources to perform intervention and remediation.
Its initial assessment suggests the cause of the incident could be a software anomaly.
Alongside the investigation, plans for the trunkline remediation are underway.
