CNOOC has drilled a high-output oil well in the Beibu Gulf offshore China.

Appraisal well WS16-5-4 on the Wushi 16-5 accumulation, in 25 m water depth, was drilled and completed at a depth of 4,185 m, encountering 65 m of oil pay zones.

Upon testing, the well delivered more than 1,000 cu. m of oil equivalent per day, the highest to date from the mature Wushi Sag region. CNOOC has now proved more than 100 MMcm of oil from the Wushi fields.
