WINDSOR, UKSpirit Energy’s current appraisal well on the Fogelberg discovery in the Norwegian Sea has delivered strong results so far, according to partner Faroe Petroleum.

Well 6506/9-4 S, drilled to a TD of 4,738 m (15,544 ft) by the semisubmersibleIsland Innovator, successfully penetrated the Garn and Ile formations, encountering 62.5 m (205 ft) of gross hydrocarbon-bearing Garn reservoir, with gas also logged in the Ile formation.

Early analysis based on coring, wireline logs, pressure data, and fluid sampling confirms the presence of gas and condensate in a sand-rich reservoir, with better reservoir quality than for the 6506/9-2 S discovery well.

As a result of this and the deeper gas-water contact, the partners have opted for a drillstem test to confirm well and reservoir productivity.

Fogelberg is 18 km (11.2 mi) north of the Åsgard production complex.
