DUBLIN, Ireland – PSE Kinsale Energy and PSE Seven Heads are seeking permission to decommission various production facilities in the Celtic Sea offshore southern Ireland.
These serve the Kinsale, Ballycotton and Seven Heads gas fields, 40 and 70 km (25 and 43 mi) off the County Cork coast. Production from Kinsale Head started in 1978, with the other two fields entering service later.
All are approaching the end of their productive lives.
The applications to the Minister at the Department of Communications, Climate Action and Environment cover the following activities:
Plugging and abandoning of development wells
Removal of two platform topsides structures
Removal of a number of subsea facilities.
A further application will follow encompassing all remaining structures over the gas fields. The current submission was accompanied by an environmental impact assessment report and an appropriate assessment screening report, outlining the environmental impacts of full decommissioning of the facilities.
