TEL AVIV, Israel – Noble Energy has confirmed the existence of natural gas in three layers of the Leviathan reservoir offshore Israel, according to partner Delek Group.
On July 30, the drillshipAtwood Advantage completed the Leviathan 5 development well: Delek estimates the cost at $106 million, out of a total well budget of $148 million.
The partners have since decided to terminate the rig’s contract and bring in a lower-cost rig to drill the lower part of theLeviathan 7 well and Leviathan 3 to their final depths, from 1Q 2018, and then complete the stage 1A production drilling.
Delek adds that the rig will have the capability to drill deep targets, in case the partners decide to pursue this type of drilling on the Leviathan leases.
All other components of stage 1A are progressing on schedule and within budget, with first gas set to flow by the end of 2019.
