DALLAS – Kosmos Energy expects to drill the Resolution prospect later this year in Garden Banks block 492 in the Gulf of Mexico.

This will be the company’s first operated well on the acreage, following its recent farm-in in to 18 BP-owned blocks in the deepwater Garden Banks area. Kosmos said it was looking to execute projects that could be tied back to existing infrastructure.

The company also executed a farm-in agreement with Chevron covering a stake in what it describes as a strategic block in the deepwater US GoM. Again, Kosmos will be designated operator and plans to start drilling the first well in 2019.

Elsewhere, the company entered into a petroleum contract in March with the Republic of the Congo for the Marine XXI block with the Republic of the Congo. If approved, Kosmos will operate with an 85% interest.

Around the same time, the company acquired Ophir Energy’s remaining interest in block EG-24 offshore Equatorial Guinea, lifting its position in the block to 80%.

Kosmos has started a formal process to sell down its interest in the offshore Mauritania/Senegal to around 10% with bids expected by the end of summer.
