ABERDEEN, UK – Siccar Point has proven oil and gas in the deepwater Blackrock prospect west of Shetland.

The semisubmersible Ocean GreatWhite drilled well 204/5b-2 in license P1830, 10 km (6.2 mi) north of the Cambo field, in 1,115 m (3,658 ft) water depth.

The main target was intra-volcanic Paleocene Flett reservoirs of the Colsay Member, on-trend with equivalent oil-filled sandstones in the Rosebank field.

The well intersected 34 m (111 ft) of intra-volcanic siliciclastic sediments containing thin, oil-bearing sandstones.

Various oil samples recovered obtained with gas also encountered in the overlying Hildasay supra-volcanic member.

According to Siccar Point, the results prove the existence of intra-volcanic charged reservoirs between Cambo and Rosebank. The company will incorporate these findings into existing regional data to better define and target thicker reservoir packages.
