PERTH, Australia – BHP’s first appraisal well on the deepwater Trion field offshore Mexico has encountered oil.
The Trion-2DEL well started drilling last November in block AE-0093. A side track was spudded on Jan. 4, the aims being to further appraise the field and to locate the oil/water contact.
This is the first deepwater well in the Mexican sector drilled by a foreign operator.
Elsewhere, BHP says it is progressing studies for the Ruby project in Trinidad and Tobago.
