COPENHAGEN -- The Chissonga-1 exploration well offshore Angola has proved oil, according to operator Maersk Oil Angola. The company conducted one production test, flowing 6,850 b/d of 36º API oil through a 36/64-in. choke. Further evaluation of well results is in progress.
Chissonga-1 is the first of a three-well exploration drilling commitment in block 16. The drillship Larsen Deep Venture drilled the well to a total depth of 4,725 m (15,501 ft).
Chissonga-1 is Maersk Oil's first operated deepwater well.
