STOCKHOLM, Sweden – Lundin Norway has finished drilling its latest appraisal well on the Johan Sverdrup field in the Norwegian North Sea.
The semisubmersibleTransocean Winner drilled well 16/2-16 in license PL501 on the structure’s northeastern flank. Its purpose was to establish the depth to the top reservoir, quality of the reservoir, the oil-water contact depth, and aquifer quality.
It encountered the top of the reservoir in line with prognosis and the oil-water contact at 1,925 m (6,315 ft) below mean sea level, around 3 m (9.8 ft) deeper than that recorded for some of theprevious wells in the license.
The well will be side tracked 1,000 m (3,281 ft) to the west to improve understanding of the lateral variations in reservoir qualities and oil-water contact depth.
