LONDON– Tullow Oil’s latest exploration well offshore Ghana has reached its planned depth with mixed results.
Okure-1, drilled in the Deepwater Tano license, encountered non-reservoir quality formations at the main target levels below theTEN cluster fields. The well also encountered a gross 17-m (56-ft) interval of low net-to-gross oil-bearing Turonian-age sandstones within an overlying secondary target.
Light oil (40° API) was recovered from this interval. Analysis of wireline logs and pressure data indicates the structure is not connected to other discoveries in the license area.
Next up for the license partner will be the Sapele-1 exploratory well which should spud by year-end adjacent to the Jubilee field.
Tullow adds that the first Jubilee Phase 1A production well is onstream and producing more than 16,500 b/d of oil, lifting overall production from the field above 90,000 b/d. Four more Phase 1A producer wells should be completed before mid-2013.
The rig is presently performingacid stimulation work on two Jubilee Phase 1 wells to further enhance output, prior to completing the second Phase 1A well around year-end.
Offshore Guyana, Tullow has dropped out of the Georgetown license, but will continue to evaluate other oil exploration opportunities in the region.
