HOUSTON – A Diamond Offshore Drilling Inc. subsidiary has contracted Keppel AmFELS to build a moored semisubmersible drilling rig using an existing hull from Diamond’s cold-stacked Ocean Voyager. The new rig, Ocean Onyx, will be designed for water depths to 6,000 ft (1,829 m).
The $300-million project will include a variable deck load of 5,000 long tons (5,080 metric tons) a five-ram BOP, and quarters for 140 personnel.
The Brownsville, Texas, Keppel yard plans to deliver the rig in 3Q 2013.
