Schlumberger to support Mariner well operations

Statoil has contracted Schlumberger Oilfield UK to provide integrated drilling and well services on the Mariner field in the UK northern North Sea.

STAVANGER, Norway – Statoil has contracted Schlumberger Oilfield UK to provide integrated drilling and well services on the Mariner field in the UK northern North Sea.

Schlumberger will supply all main drilling and well services from its base in Aberdeen, including drilling, completion, electrical submersible pumps (ESPs), cement, and fluids.

The four-year contract, which starts in January, covers 22 wells and includes logistics support. There are options for four-year extensions.

Mariner is 150 km (93 mi) east of the Shetland Isles. Drilling is due to start in 2016 with production start-up in 2017.

The main Mariner platform will have one drilling rig and one well intervention and completion unit. In addition, a new jackup will be stationed next to the Mariner installation, working through well slots.

Schlumberger’s contract includes options forBressay, another Statoil-operated heavy-oil field in the area, which is in the concept evaluation phase. The contract will also serve as a framework agreement for Statoil’s exploration drilling services throughout the UK continental shelf.
