SINGAPORE – The jackup Atwood Orca has spudded the Rojana-A exploration well in block G11/48 in the Gulf of Thailand for operator Mubadala Petroleum.
Water depth is 232 ft (70.6 m). According to partnerKrisEnergy, the well will be drilled to 4,828 ft (1,472 m) MD and will probe a series of stacked sandstone reservoirs in the Miocene interval.
This is the first exploration well on the block since productive exploration and appraisal programs in 2009-2010.
The 3,374-sq km (1,303-sq mi) concession is on the southern margin of the Pattani basin and the northwest margin of the Malay basin. The contract area contains theNong Yao field development, which is expected to produce first oil during 1Q 2015.
Mubadala also confirms that itsPegaga discovery in block SK320 offshore Malaysia is a potentially commercial gas find. The third successful well, Sirih 1 targeted a series of carbonate pinnacles in the block. The well reached TD of 3,000 m (9,840 ft) and confirmed an 850-m (2,788-ft) gas column. Flow rate was 30-50 MMcf/d of gas with condensate. Water depth is 109 m (358 ft).
This follows the Peegag 1 and Sintok 1 discoveries, and the previous M5 discovery appraised in 2012.
