OSLO, Norway – Statoil Petroleum has proven more gas in the producing Visund field in the northern Norwegian North Sea.
TheCOSL Pioneer drilled well 34/8-17 S in 378 m (1,240 ft) of water in license PL120 on the field’s northeast flank.
According to the Norwegian Petroleum Directorate (NPD), the well encountered a 31-m (102-ft) gross gas column in the Tarbert, Ness, and Etive formations in the middle Jurassic, of which around 20 m (65.6 ft) were in sandstones with good reservoir quality.
It also intersected a 21-m (69-ft) petroleum column in the underlying Rannoch formation rocks, but with poor reservoir quality, along with traces of petroleum in lower Jurassic sandstones.
NPD estimates the discovery in the range 0.5-2 MMcmoe recoverable. The license partners will consider atie-in to existing infrastructure.
COSL Pioneer will next drill a side track to a production target in the Visund field.
