STAVANGER, Norway -- BG Norge is currently concluding its drilling of appraisal well 34/3-1 A on the 34/3-1 S oil discovery. The well is located northeast of the Snorre field in the northern part of the North Sea.

The target for the well was to delineate the 34/3-1 S (Jordbær) discovery, which earlier this year proved oil in Lower Jurassic rocks. The well encountered the oil-water contact for the discovery.

Preliminary estimates indicate that the size of the discovery is within a range of uncertainty from 9 – 13 MMcm of recoverable oil equivalents. The well was not formation-tested, but extensive data collection and sampling have been conducted, according to the company.

This is the second exploration well in production license 373 S, which was awarded in APA 2005.

The appraisal well was drilled to a vertical depth of 3,974 m (13,038 ft) below the sea surface, and was concluded in Lower Jurassic rocks.

The drilling activity was carried out using theBredford Dolphin drilling facility at a water depth of 400 m (1,312 ft). The well will now be plugged and abandoned, and the Bredford Dolphin will move on to production license 338 to drill appraisal well 16/1-8 for Lundin.
