EDINBURGH, UK – The semisubmersible drilling rig Leiv Eiriksson will P&A Delta-1, Cairn Energy’s latest exploration well offshore Greenland.
Delta-1 was drilled in 293 m (961 ft) water depth and 365 km (227 mi) offshore Aasiaat, in the Napariaq block in the West Disko area. The well targeted the Cretaceous section beneath the Tertiary volcanic. It reached TD at 2,977 m (9,767 ft) without encountering hydrocarbons.
Leiv Eiriksson will shortly relocate south to re-enter the AT7-1 well in the Atammik block in the South Ungava area, in 909 m (2,982 ft) water depth 198 km (123 mi) offshore Nuuk. This well was temporarily suspended to allow the rig to drill Delta-1, the aim being to optimize drilling time in the West Disko area
Cairn’s other contracted rig, the Ocean Rig Corcovado, is also on the Atammik block drilling the AT2-1 well, in a water depth of 1,045 m (3,428 ft).
This is the fifth well in the company’s exploration campaign this year offshore Greenland.
