OSLO, Norway – Statoil has proven small volumes of gas and condensate from its latest well in the North Sea, according to the Norwegian Petroleum Directorate (NPD).
The semisubmersibleSonga Delta drilled well 30/11-13 in 106 m (348 ft) of water in production license 272, 8 km (4.9 mi) southeast of the 30/11-8 S (Krafla) discovery and 27 km (16.8 mi) south of the Oseberg South platform.
The well encountered gas columns at two levels in the top part of the Tarbert formation, the well encountered two gas columns of respectively 5 and 31 m (16.4 and 102 ft), of which 4 and 22 m (13 and 72 ft) exhibited good to moderate reservoir properties.
A secondary exploration target in the Ness formation was water-wet.
NPD estimates the size of the find in the range 1-3 MMboe recoverable. Statoil will include it in the evaluation of a new development project encompassing other discoveries in the area.
Songa Delta will next drill a wildcat in the same license.
NPD has authorized Lundin Norway to re-enter and deepen an appraisal well in Barents Sea license PL 609, which was temporarily P&A’d last year.
The semisubLeiv Eiriksson will conduct the program on well 7220/11-3 A, 4 km (2.5 mi) south of the 7220/11-1 discovery well.
