OSLO, Norway — Equinor has proven more oil and gas in the Oseberg area in the Norwegian North Sea.

Exploration well 30/6-C-2 A (Lambda) was drilled from the Oseberg C drilling, production and quarters platform to a location 4 km west of the Oseberg Field in license 053, in 109 m water depth.

The Norwegian Petroleum Directorate (NPD) said the well encountered hydrocarbons in the Eriksson and Cook formations, with combined potential recoverable reserves of 0.4 MMcmoe to 1.4 MMcmoe.

Equinor and its partners will look to improve their understanding of the find and to identify production solutions for the oil and the gas, the NPD added.

Initially the well encountered about 23 m of oil and gas-filled sandstone with good reservoir quality in the Eiriksson Formation in the Statfjord Group. In the Cook Formation, the well penetrated 15 m of oil-  and gas-filled sandstone with moderate to good reservoir quality, with no petroleum/water contact.

The well was terminated in the Eiriksson formation and has since been plugged back.
