Africa Oil details drilling progress offshore Nigeria, Namibia

VANCOUVER, Canada — Africa Oil has issued an update on its drilling programs offshore West Africa.
Via Prime Oil & Gas, the company has an indirect interest in OML 130 offshore Nigeria where a new drilling campaign started in February.
The first two wells, both water injectors, were completed in June and will support production from existing oil wells. Drilling of the third well, an oil producer, started last month; in total, up to nine wells are planned on the Egina and Akpo fields in the license area during 2023 and 2024.
Later in the year, the TotalEnergies-led partnership plans to acquire 4D monitor seismic surveys for Akpo, Egina and Agbami as well as a baseline 4D seismic survey of the yet to be developed Preowei Field. Results will support drilling decisions across both OML 130 and OML 127.
Following the 20-year renewal of the OML 130 license on May 28, FEED studies should follow to facilitate FID for the Preowei oil discovery as a subsea tieback to the Egina FPSO to the south.
In the Orange Basin offshore Namibia, Africa Oil has an indirect interest in TotalEnergies’ current offshore drilling campaign via its 31% shareholding in partner Impact Oil and Gas.
During the second quarter, the Tungsten Explorer drillship drilled and completed the Venus-1A appraisal well in Block 2913B, 13 km north of last year’s ultradeepwater Venus-1X discovery well.
Venus-1A will undergo a drillstem test (DST) after the Deepsea Mira has completed another DST on Venus-1X, the program including drilling of a side-track.
Tungsten Explorer has since spud the Nara-1X exploration well, 30 km northwest of Venus-1X in Block 2912, with a view to performing another DST in the event of a discovery. Subject to a successful outcome, an appraisal well could follow.
All the planned DSTs should provide data for assessing the dynamic performance of the reservoirs and estimating potential flow rates from the production wells.
