LONDON  The Transocean Barents semisubmersible has spud the TotalEnergies-operated Benriach exploration well in Block 206/05c west of Shetland, targeting 638 Bcf of prospective resources.

Partner Kistos expects drilling to finish this summer.

In the Dutch North Sea, the Valaris 123 jackup recently left Kistos’ Q10-A gas field (in which Kistos holds 60%) after completing its work program.

Various mechanical issues arose from using the existing well stock, leading Kistos to conduct an assessment of the results (with support from consultants) and future production enhancement options.

This could lead to drilling of more Zechstein clastics wells in 2024 combined with development drilling on the offshore Orion oil field, where work continues on the concept select phase, supported by Rockflow Resources.

Engineering design work has been completed concerning installation of two more risers on the platform, which would allow it to host additional wells.
