OSLO, Norway —Dolphin Drilling’s semisub Blackford Dolphin has completed a five-year recertification process in Las Palmas, the Canary Islands.
At the shipyard in Las Palmas, the rig underwent a special periodic survey, allowing for continuous work until 2028. Maintenance and class work took place in cooperation with flag state, class, yard, main equipment vendors and sub-contractors.
The rig will now be towed south to Port Harcourt in Nigeria and should start a 12-month drilling contract with General Hydrocarbons Ltd. (GHL) in early March.
A couple weeks ago the company announced on its LinkedIn that it signed letter of award (LOA) for the Blackford Dolphin in Nigeria for an undisclosed client in direct continuation with the previously announced contract with GHL. The LOA has the potential to extend the backlog by a minimum of 120 days and up to 485 days, in addition to the existing GHL backlog. The effective day rate associated with the minimum firm period of the LOA is $325,000, including the mobilization fee.
