LONDON TotalEnergies and its partners have contracted a rig to drill a well this spring on the Benriach prospect in the Greater Laggan Area (GLA) West of Shetland.

According to co-venturer Kistos, drilling will target 638 Bcf (110 MMboe) recoverable. The company took a 25% stake in the GLA last July.

The partners plan a decision on the nearby Glendronach gas field development later this year to allow for further technical reviews, designed to reduce costs.

At Kistos’ operated Q10-A area in the Dutch North Sea, uptime has been strong, and export through the P15 platform has been more reliable of late. Due to the reservoir’s variable productivity, the company plans regular interventions to maximize production.

Last month the Valaris jackup arrived at the field for a campaign comprising a sidetrack of the A01 well in the Slochteren formation; stimulation of the A04 well in the Clastics; and installation of velocity strings on the A05 and A06 wells. Further clastics wells could follow over the next 18 months.

Following successful drilling and flow testing in 2021 of an appraisal well on the Orion oil field, development has moved to the concept select phase. As an oil project, it would not be subject to the Dutch government’s planned "windfall tax" Cijns .
