TORONTO, Canada CGX Energy and Frontera Energy have completed final preparations for the Wei-1 exploration well in the Corentyne Block offshore Guyana.

This will be drilled 14 km northwest of the Kawa-1 light oil discovery on the same block about 200 km offshore Georgetown and in a water depth of 1,912 ft (583 m), with a planned total depth of 20,500 ft (6,248 m).

Wei-1 will target Maastrichtian, Campanian and Santonian-aged stacked channels in a western channel complex in the northern part of the block.

The NobleCorp Discoverer semisubmersible will spud the well no later than Jan. 31, 2023, after completing a current program offshore Trinidad.

Although the license terms had specified drilling this second commitment well by Nov. 27, 2022, the partners secured dispensation from Guyana’s government to start drilling at a later date.
