ATHENS, Greece— The Stena IceMax drillship has spud the Hercules exploration well in Block 23 offshore Israel. Operator Energean is targeting 8 Bcm to 12 Bcm of gas from the Miocene prospect.
Previous wells in the current campaign led to Zeus and Hermes discoveries, along with the earlier Athena find.
Energean now appears to have resource volumes in the Olympus area of 25 Bcm, with a further 42 Bcm de-risked.
Hermes, in Block 31, has helped de-risk the nearby Poseidon and Orpheus structures.
In the Gulf of Suez offshore Egypt, the company’s NEA#6 development well should complete drilling in first-quarter 2023, with first gas anticipated in first-half 2023.
Offshore Sicily, the Cassiopea development, operated by Eni, remains on track for first gas in first-half 2024, Energean added.
