MUSCAT, Oman—Shelf Drilling’sCompact Driller jackup has spud the Yumna-4 Deep appraisal/exploration well for Masirah Oil on the Yumna Field offshore Oman.
This will be a dual-objective directional well. The shallow objective portion will test an eastern extension of the field, which is productive from the Aruma Formation at a depth of about 1,700 m.
At that point, the well will be deepened to the exploration target, a structural closure in the Khufai Formation at about 3,000 m. While this formation is productive onshore Oman, it remains little explored in the offshore area.
Drilling operations should last roughly 60 days.
Prior to the well, Compact Driller replaced an electric submersible pump in the Yumna-3 well, which had experienced issues since mid-year following change-outs and upgrades to the field’s production facilities.
Yumna-1, 2 and 3 were all shut in briefly during drilling of the shallow hole section of Yumna-4 Deep, before resuming production over the weekend.
