STAVANGER, Norway – Equinor has discovered oil and gas in the Kveikje prospect in the Norwegian North Sea.

Odfjell Drilling’s semisubmersible Deepsea Stavanger drilled well 35/10-8S in the PL293B license in the Lomre Terrace region. Equinor’s partner Longboat Energy estimates recoverable resources from the primary Eocene Kveikje Main target at 28-48 MMboe, above pre-drill expectations.

The companies say that reservoir quality is good, and the location is 40 km (25 mi) from the Troll field and 32 km (20 mi) from Troll C. The well also encountered a gas layer in the overlaying Kveikje Hordaland Eocene injectite on top of the Kveikje Main reservoir.

Rokke and N’Roll, the secondary targets, both encountered indications of sand with hydrocarbons, and further analysis will be needed to determine their potential.

Longboat CEO Helge Hammer said: “Kveikje is the fifth well and third discovery in our seven-well drilling campaign. The rig will now move to the nearby Cambozola well where we have a 25% working interest. Cambozola is a play opener and one of the largest gas prospects to be drilled in Norway in 2022 and mid-year we expect to spud Copernicus, another a very large gas prospect.”

Kveikje will undergo further evaluation as part of a potential Equinor-operated area development, which could include the Toppand, Swisher, Røver Nord, Echino South and Blasto discoveries, and the undeveloped Grosbeak field.
