Shell makes deepwater light oil discovery off Namibia

Shell has made an oil discovery with the Graff-1 exploration well in the Orange basin offshore Namibia, according to partner QatarEnergy.

DOHA, Qatar – Shell has made an oil discovery with the Graff-1 exploration well in the Orange basin offshore Namibia, according to partner QatarEnergy.

The Graff-1 well proved a working petroleum system with light oil. The partners will conduct analysis on the well data and further exploration activity to determine the full size and recoverable resource potential.

The drillship Valaris DS-10 drilled the well to a total depth of 5,376 m (17,638 ft) in water depths of about 2,000 m (6,562 ft) in the PEL-39 license.

Shell is the operator and holds 45% interest. QatarEnergy holds 45% and NAMCOR, Namibia’s state oil company, holds 10%.
