LONDON – Odfjell Drilling has spudded the Dugong Tail exploration well in the Norwegian North Sea for operator Neptune Energy.

The CIMC-owned semisubmersible Deepsea Yantai is drilling the well in license 882, 120 km (75 mi) west of Florø, in 320 m (1,050 ft) of water, and close to the Snorre field production facilities.

The reservoir is at a depth of 3,200-3,500 m (10,498-11,483 ft): side track drilling will follow if the well encounters hydrocarbons.

Dugong was one of Norway’s largest discoveries of 2020. A recent drillstem test on the structure is presently under evaluation.

Neptune’s partners in the well are Petrolia NOCO, Idemitsu Petroleum Norge, and Concedo.
