MUSCAT, Oman – Masirah Oil’s latest exploration campaign on block 50 offshore Oman has not delivered further discoveries.

All three wells were drilled by the jackup Shelf Drilling Tenacious, as Masirah attempted to prove more oil close to the producing Yumna field facilities.

The first prospect, Zakhera, was drilled 11 km (6.8 mi) south of Yumna Field. Although the well encountered good oil shows, sand quality was poor.

Yumna East and Yumna North, respectively 3 km (1.86 mi) east and 6 km (3.7 mi) north of the Yumna field, were both water filled.

However, the results did confirm the extents of the good-quality Lower Aruma sandstone and should improve understanding of trap mechanisms in the area.

The three wells were each drilled at a cost of around $3.5 million.

As for the three Yumna production wells, these tested steadily over a week in March at rates of 20,000 b/d, and rates have since then been optimized in accordance with the reservoir management plan.
