The Deepsea Atlantic semisubmersible rig drilled well 31/1-4 in 304 m of water in production license 923/923B on the Ringand prospect, which is 17 km west of Troll.
It encountered gas in the Drake, Etive, Ness and Oseberg formations as well as oil in the Oseberg formation.
Early analysis suggests up to 17 MMboe recoverable. Equinor and partners Petoro and DNO will consider a tie-in development to future planned infrastructure in the area.
"It's a small discovery, but in an interesting area that we plan to further explore with much existing infrastructure," said Geir Sørtveit, Equinor's senior vice president for Exploration & Production West on the Norwegian Continental Shelf. “If more discoveries are made, it may be relevant to combine these to ensure good resource utilization and the best possible economy."
Previous finds in the license were Røver Nord and Røver Sør. These and Ringand are all within a 25-km radius of the Troll B platform, DNO said.
