MUSCAT, Oman – Masirah Oil has started oil production from the second development well on the Yumna field offshore Oman.
Output is currently 9,000 b/d of dry oil, with the rate constrained by the size of the downhole electrical submersible pump.
Yumna 2, spud in December, encountered 10 m (33 ft) of lower Aruma sandstone with a porosity of 21%: this proves extensive, good-quality reservoir sand north of Yumna 1, the company said.
Reservoir pressure depletion over the first year of production from the field has been around 100 psi, confirming that pressure support is provided by a strong aquifer.
The jackup Shelf Drilling Tenacious has spudded the third producer, Yumna 3, targeting a crestal location in the field east and up-dip from the discovery well GAS-1.
An ongoing upgrade to facilities on the Yumna mobile offshore production unit is designed to double the liquid processing capacity to accommodate production from the three wells, and should be completed by the end of March.
The rig will then relocate to drill the Zakhera prospect, a lookalike structure around 12 km (7.5 mi) south of Yumna.
