MOSCOW – Rosneft has been working with Russian R&D organizations on a program of shallow stratigraphic wells in the Kara Sea in the Arctic region.
The purpose is to collect core samples to help determine geological composition of the Northern Kara basin.
These will undergo laboratory testing at Innopraktika and the Lomonosov Moscow State University Faculty of Geology. Subsequent analytical studies and additional lab tests, Rosneft added, should improve the reliability of forecasts of oil and gas potential in the Arctic’s multi-aged sedimentary basin.
The technologies used to drill the stratigraphic wells are not harmful to the environment, the company stressed.
